What is origami?
Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to create a representational or abstract sculpture by folding sheets of paper, without the use of glue or cutting. Simple origami, such as the kind often taught to children, can usually be done with a single sheet of square paper. More complicated origami will require multiple sheets of paper to be folded and combined in order to create the desired effect.
The history of origami.
Origami is the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding. The word origami comes from the Japanese words “ori” meaning “to fold” and “kami” meaning “paper.” Although origami is often associated with simple shapes such as animals or flowers, it can also be quite complex.
The earliest known examples of origami date back to the 17th century. However, it is thought that origami originated long before this in China. Paper was introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and by the 9th century, paper was being used for various ceremonial purposes such as wrapping gifts and clothing.
It wasn’t until the Edo period (1603-1867) that origami began to evolve into the art form we know today. This was a time of great social change in Japan, and origami was used as a form of entertainment for the samurai warrior class. Famous works from this period include the crane, which is said to represent good fortune, and the kokeshi doll, which is a traditional Japanese wooden doll.
Origami became popularized in Western culture in the mid-1900s thanks to books such as Akira Yoshizawa’s Origamic Architecture and Sam Receives His diploma. Since then, origami has been embraced by people of all ages around the world.
The different types of origami.
There are many different types of origami, and each one has its own specific instructions. The most common type of origami is the simple fold, which is what most people think of when they think of origami. Other types of origami include the base fold, the cp fold, the box pleat, and the rabbit ear.

3. Fold the paper in half once more, then unfolded it so that you have a folded crease in the center of the paper.
4. Take the top left corner of the paper and fold it down to meet the bottom right corner, then crease well. Unfold the paper.
5. Fold the top right corner of the paper down to meet the bottom left corner, then crease well. Unfold the paper.
6. Now you should have four equal quarters sectioned off by twofold lines criss-crossing in the center of the paper.
7. Take one quarter of the paper and fold it up vertically so that the creased edge meets the centerfold line, then crease well and unfold. Repeat with remaining three quarters of paper so that all four corners have been folded up to meetthe centerline (your paper will now be divided into 16 smaller squares).
8 . Pick up one square and fold it in half diagonally to form a triangle, then crease well and unfold back into a square shape
9 . Fold each side of the square inward so that they meet in the center, forming a smaller triangle shape with flaps on either side
